THEORY
A
book is a written or printed work consisting of pages glued or sewn together
along one side and bound in covers or is a set of written sheets of skin paper
or tablets of wood or ivory. (www.oxford dictiory, 2006) . Theory is a formal
idea or set of ideas that is intended to explain something (www.collinsdictionary.com,
2016) .
Or theory is a set of interrelated concepts, definitions, and propositions that
explains or predicts events or situation by specifying relation among
variables. Furthermore theory is a body of ideas, concepts, or principle put
forward to explain the facts events or general. On my own view a first person
who thought about the meaning of literature has fetched the ideas from theory
and not from book; I support my view by the following reasons.
Thought
is an idea or opinion produced by thinking or occurring suddenly in the mind.
Whereby thinking is action of using mind to produce ideas thus theory is
critical and common sense then therefore it is obvious that a person cannot
think about something by fetching the ideas from the book rather he or she will
use common sense which is equivalent to theory.
Theory
carries underlying principles, which one might say the tools by which we
attempt to understand literature, so when one wants to give the meaning of
something he or she must follow the underlying principle because are the one
which gives way forward and demarcation or guideline, it is like a tool for
anyone to produce something better. Therefore a first person who thought about
meaning of literatures has fetched the ideas from the theory as it was
underlying principle for giving clear meaning.
It
is theories which carry literary interpretation, and it serves justification
for different kinds of critical activity, thus for a person to give clear
meaning of literature he or she should lay on theory because theory is
analytical and speculative and because theory is the approved ideas then it is
easiest to use theory in revealing, forming and interpreting idea and meaning
of things and object at all.
Through
theory a person formulates an idea about literatures how it works and how it
means. So it is very easier for a person to think and formulates the meaning of
something through theory rather than book as it is simple for a person to
develop a new idea with the use of theory so definitely a first person who
thought about the meaning of literature has fetched the idea from the theory.
Theory
is about thinking, it offers understanding of different phenomena because it is
an inquire in its categories, we use in making sense of things. Thinking goes
perpendicular with sense and sense is about thinking whereby theory is
reflective hence a first person who thought about the meaning of literature has
fetched the ideas from theory.
There
are literary theories which define literature, as far as the questions concerns
the following are some literary theory which defines literature;
Structuralism
theory this theory means that literary work’s meaning should come from the
structure of the language used to create a text. That means literature is works
of art which produces meaning through checking language structure that is the
psyche and the language of the society. This is the meaning of literature
according to structuralism theory which was propagated by Ferdinand De Saussure;
therefore this proves the view meaning of literature was fetched from theory.
Deconstructualism
theory or post structuralism theory; This theory means that literary works
meaning is created out of differences, this is to say that literature is a work
of art which have multiple layers of meaning , that is the meaning comes from
different angle and not only the language. This is a meaning of literature
according to post structuralism theory which was propagated by Jacque Derrida.
Therefore this proves that the first person who thought the meaning of
literature fetched the idea from theory.
Formalism
theory; this theory means that literary work is not a mirror which reflect the
society, t the meaning of literature does not bare the external factor of it,
that is to say no matter the literary work have not reflected the society but
critics should concern with the literariness of literature that is the language used in a text.
Generally
thoughts starts in a mind, in order to give the meaning of something you must
associate the theory and your thought so as to measure the correctness of the
meaning you want to deliver or expose, further more a person cannot think by taking ideas from book because a book is
full of written document which is already exposed ideas from preceding person
or from other people who have thought and put it in writings, on top of
that the first ideas starts from mind
and not in a book, the ideas starts in mind and after being formulated and
proved that they are correct is when then can be written.
