It means that any literary work when a artist present. Actually it guiding a author to portray a important thing that hundred percent occurred. In literature when a writer trying to reveals a something it consider a central topic to a text treats. In the novel A MAN OF THE PEOPLE written by Chinua Achebe he reveals different themes in various way to reflect social realities;

In the novel of (A MAN OF THE PEOPLE) the main ideas of the author on his work to reflect social realities, the following are themes

Ignorant, this is the condition in which someone lacks known or information on situation is shown Odili tell the people of Anata that they are not only ignorant but cynical "they did not know Chief Nanga use his position to enrich himself but not to help society" therefore in ourcontemporary society there are leader like Chief Nanga who enrich himself or herself instead of the society.

Also in the novel author portray issue of ignorant as problem which facing the society, this evidence is reveals in the novel and in the society betrayal is happening for example in our society people are ignorant in different matters, some of the people especially who lives in village they are ignorant about evils of their political leaders as result they continue to vote this prove that people are ignorant until to date

Betrayal, this refers to going against legal agreement, in the novel betrayal is shown by the Prime minister after the suggestion of minister of finance on cutting down of coffees price to meet the world market, then minister is sucked by Prime minister.

Also Chief Nanga seemed to betrayal Odili by seducing Elsie, Odili's fiance as well as situation occurred to the present society.Also in novel author portray chief Nanga betrayal his fellow when he promised to bring real development in the both state of Anata village and bori, actually chief Nanga does not fulfill this promises to his people but he still benefit himself and his fellow like chief koko .

Also betrayal is shown by Chief Nanga when he decided to sleep with Elsie at one night who is a girlfriend of Odili Samalu, because Chief Nanga for that night he Miss to meet with his girlfriend that is why he decided to be together with a Elsie so that is betrayal. Also in the our society betrayal is happening in our society from our leaders who promised a lot but they fail to fulfill it.

Nepotism, this means the favoring of relatives or personal friend because of their relationship rather than their ability. In the novel thesituation shown by Chief Nanga tells that he waste his time at village and tell him to go to the city and take a position in the civil service because who are from same village, this reveals from the third world countries there are leaders who favoring their relatives because of the same village or area.

Also in the novel author portray that Chief Nanga, Chief Nanga he tries to use his power in order to make different with other. So in the novel nepotism usually is shown by a chief Nanga because he is a top leader as portrayed in the novel. Chinua Achebe portray chief Nanga as one who play great rule in favourite people in the novel. Example Chief Nanga is a top leader he tries to select or to point a best friend known as Chief koko as a part of the leader to his government and also during a election period as in the novel portrayed Chief koko decides to point some people's to a part of representation during the General election through His political part known as people convection party. Therefore in our society there are leader who favouring their relative for the sake of their own benefits.

Polygamism, refers to the condition of having more than one marriage partner at onetime in the novel Hezekiah samalu had many wives and children so Hezekiah samalu portrayed as polygamist African societies having this culture of marrying more than one wife.

Irresponsibility this refers to the condition in which someone is incapable of performing his or her duties. In the novel theAuthor, portrayed Chief Nanga as an irresponsible leader as he fails even knowing names of few writers in the country despite of being a minister of culture, this shows that before a leader to acquire powerful or leadership they kindness and promises a lot of things but when they are in position they forget everything.

Corruption, this is the illegal use of public fund or office in the novel Chief Nangaportrayed by the Author as corrupt leader, he tried to bribe Odili to stop down from election. Also Chief Koko as a corrupt leader who bribes Max well kulamo to stop down from election this is a problem which facing Africa countries. Also in the novel author portray that chief koko when bribe Maxwell kulumo in order to stop from general election so as they want to belongs more position during election process. It means that in the novel chief koko tries to convince people in order to transfer in election but Maxwell kulumo also he disagree to be far with election.

Superstition, this refers to the belief not based on human reason or scientific knowledge that future events may be influenced by ones behaviour in some magical ways. In the novel the situation is shown by chief Nanga when arrived holding animal skin in which they believed it removes all evils design also Odili father shows the superstition on the protective medicine located at crucial point of the his house. The Author tries to sight whathappening in the society.

Hypocrisy, refers to the false appearance of a someone where someone is pretending he or she is good in front of others. In the novel Chief Nanga is portrayed as hypocrite when he tells Odili on teaching professional that he wish to be a teacher rather than to be a minister but in reality is not true.

Hypocrisy also found in Africa societies especially leaders.Also hypocrisy is the common into our societies people pretend to be good while not good for instance in Tanzania political figure deceives people during the election in order to hold position, A from the novel a author shows that how people are pretending to be kindly for example when Chief Nanga sleep with Elsie, Odils girlfriend and Chief Nanga tells Odili that "he can forgive me and I will give more six girls who can enjoying with them"this is a hypocrite.

conflict, is the misunderstanding between two or more people in the society this is common to occur in the novel the authorportray the issue of conflict between character having different ideas for example conflict between Odili and chief Nanga, this happening when chief Nanga sleep with Elsie. Also conflict between Elsie and Odili, conflict between Chief Nanga and his wife (Mrs Nanga.

 Also this is happening in our societies, many people in Tanzania living with misunderstanding with other especially political matters over the ruling part or government also in Tanzania societies love is source of conflict which may cause death in the society.

Power monger, is relevant in our society, in this novel Author portrays the issue of power monger through the character known as Chief Nanga. All way chief Nanga want to maintain his position even though he does not complete the demand of his people, Chief Nanga is not active in his position this because he want to maintain his position this reveals during election chief Nanga is not ready to offer the position.

So as this is power monger. Also in the society there is political leader who are not ready to offer the position even though he or she does failed to control his people. Example Africa countries like Zimbabwe by Robert Mugabe is power monger.

Generally, the Author Chinua Achebe has explained what he experience in the societies, especially inAfricacountries those things which has explained by China Achebe are happening in Africa societies

introduction

Play or drama is the literary composition of any considerable length which written to be performed by actors on the stages. The word play come from Greek which mean to do or to mean. Also there are types of drama which are tragedy, comedy, tragicomedyhistorical drama and mlo_drama

Play like other genres of literature can teach, criticise, entertain and open people to be conscious. For example is making what are happening in the societies such as hypocrite, corruption,poverty, misuse of public fund and irresponsibility

By using play one playwhich is "I WILL MARY WHEN I WANT" by Ngugi wathing'o and Ngugi wa mirii, we answer this question to showing characteristics of play or dramaas follows.

Play is use stages to present all ideas ,through stage writer use it to reflect what happening in the societies example when writer use first stage at kiguunda's home which is looking as poor according to each appearance, in this stage writer is reveal the issues of poverty on how is happening in the societies.

Play use dialogue to reflect social realities, dialogue means the use of conversation between two or more people, in the play "I WILL MARY WHEN I WANT" dialogue is using in order to make it work unique one.

It is divided into Act and scenes and not in chapters or stanzas, in the play "I will Mary when I want" the events are arranging into scene and act from act one to act five, this is showing how the work is it is.

Play has a Freytag's pyramid through which the story is structured and told, this is not found in novel, short stories or poetry.

The play of "iwill Mary when I want " is written to be read and not acted on stages, this is because this play is both acted and one can read and he or she can get message upon it.

Drama like other genres of literature can teach or instruct can criticise, enlighten or inspired. Through that it raise awareness by emphasizing on a certain aspect pertaining to real life dynamic like corruption immoral or philandering behaviour that leads to transmission of scourge. So I will Mary when I want that to this pertains to these aspects can be reflected and then be subjected to criticism.

Therefore play as work of art like other genres which use to reflect social realities within the community and writer use their time to make sure that the societies is getting what a writer need to reflect at all.
