THE ORIGIN OF LITERATURE
1.         Literature is imaginative the work of art and use authelic language either spoken or written to reflect the social reality. Literature began as the result of human development of language. According to J.Mark (2009). Literature is derived from latin “littera” which means “letters” and reffering to acquaintance with written word. In west literature originated in MESSOPOTAMIA region of SUMER (300 BC) in the city of uruk and floushed in Egypt later in Greese. The first author in the world is HIGHPRIESTESS who wrote about sumarian Goddess “Inanna” much of Mesopotamia literature concerned activities of Gods.


2.         Importance of literature
            Literature is most significant despline in human life. It is important in following ways;
            Literature is the source of employment, people employ them self in the literary work like authors, play writers, movie actors, musician and pots hence employment that improve their living standard. Therefore literature is important.
Literature helps to influence people in the society, literary work has power to advice the majority in the mallers of bringing charging in the society. These changes can be in politics economics for example A poem FRONT LINE by George Masho influence the majority to wage war against exploitive, oppressive and government.
            Literature helps to promote people’s culture, literary works reviles the valuable culture that are to be prevented by natives for example in play “A LION AND THE JEWL” WOLE SOYINKA criticize some African Elites who works down on their native culture by character LAKUNLE a primary kacher whom is against traditional dances.
            Literature is used to entertain people in the society, some of literary works are for entertainment for example Comedy that always makes people laugh not only that also myth entertain children.
            Literature is useful in developing language, as the language used in unique way in literature example metaphor (he is tick) a one is names are tick due to their univeralbility in behavior to depend on the other like  depend on sucking blood from animals bodies, idioms, smile, saying which add a test to language in use.


3.         Types of literature, there is two types of literature which is as follows
            Written literature, this types of literature expressing by using writing language, it is new types to oral literature since it was emerged after innovation of words. However written literature has classified into three types which is
i.                     Play, it is the genre of writing literature it performed on a stage by bactors or characters. Example of play include BETRAYAL IN THE CITY by OYONO MBIA, LION AND THE JEWEL by WOLE SOYINKA, and LWANDA MAGERE by  OMTATA.
ii.                   Novel, it is the long narration by a character on the action of characters, A person who compose a novel is called Novelist. Example of novel, THINGS FALL APART by CHINUA ACHEBE. A MAN OF THE PEOPLE by CHUMA ACHEBE.
iii.                  Poetry, body of expression used athletic language to express feeling ideas and emotion of individual, example of poems FRONT LINE by GEORGE MACHO, YOUR PAIN by ARMANDO GUEBUZA.
Oral literature, this refer to the kind of literature which using spoken aesthetic language o reflect social reality. Its early type of literature emerged with the development of human life experience (evolution of man 1500BC). It existed before even the innovation of writings. Oral literature including, folktale, legend, myth, riddles, fables, sayings, idioms, and the like.








4.    Forms of oral literature
These are methods of tools from which oral literature is embossed successfully. Including;
Oral narratives, these are stories narrated through the words of mouth. A narrator meet the audience normally they start with “once upon a time”. Examples of oral narrations are;
i.                     Tricksters (have stories showing cleverness)
ii.                   Myth (traditional stories explain earth human history or natural phenomena)
iii.                  Legend (story about man eating giants)
Songs and dance. This is form of oral tradition of which tradition dances and songs are orally given out. Example initiation ceremony where song are sing. Including;
i.                     Work songs (emphasizing people to work)
ii.                   Love songs (songs about love)
iii.                  Birth songs (songs about birth)
iv.                 Appraising songs (about revolution and change
Short forms, these are short sayings aiming to teach, this includes,
i.                     Proverbs, ( phrase with two sides which express somethingbelvest
ii.                   Riddles, puzzling question aiming to test the cleverness of these who wishing to solve them.
iii.                  Tongue transfer
iv.                 Oral poetry, according to Richard Koslelanetz is syntactically standard language written to be read aloud.
