Batch production is method of manufacturing where the products are made as specified groups or amount within a time frame, usually produced at a regular interval and stocked in warehouses as a finished goods awaiting for sale. Batch production is used for many types of manufacturing that may need smaller amounts of production at a time to ensure specific quality, standards or changes in the process and go through a series of steps in large manufacturing process to make the final desired product waiting for sale. By using the batch production method it is possible to archive specialization of labor that’s because the main aims of batch method are to achieve high utilization of resources.

Industries have used this type of manufacturing to make their overall process more efficient dependant on your desired output rate. Examples of products created within the batch production process include flat pack furniture, electrical goods, clothing, baked goods, books or newspapers, pharmaceuticals and fast food.

MERITS OF BATCH PRODUCTION.

Through the use of batch production as a method of production in a given organization there have a merits obtained for using this method. Therefore the following are the merits organization may be obtained when using batch production.

It is cheaper to produce a whole batch of a product than a single item at a time, because machines can be used more effectively for producing a group number of product at the same time than to produce a single product at that time.

Low cost is needed for production process, because machinery can be utilized more efficiently to produce a group number of product at the same time and fewer workers needed that’s help to save money for the business.

The company that uses it has a variety of products rather than just one type, so therefore it gives customer a larger choice and hence a larger possibility of sales and reduce the risk of concentration on one product and allows for flexibility.

The overall wastage is reduced, by creating the correct number of products required by the customer at the specific time, because batch production it produced according to the customer needs that make unreliable to the organization the goods produced are buying by the customer and there have no product retain in the store.

Workers specialize in one process ,By using batch production method it is possible to archive specialization of labor because batch production require that the work for any task is divided into parts or operations. That helps to increase efficient and productivity of workers by concentrate on one task.

Useful for seasonal items, due to the ability to order more or less of a particular items because in batch production product are produced and stored in the stock, so for those items which are seasonal produced may produced and stored in the store awaiting time for demanded and sold.

DEMERITS OF BATCH PRODUCTION

Although there has the advantages of using batch production method as explained above but in other side has disadvantages of using this method, there for the following are the disadvantages of using batch production method.

Periods of downtime, in batch production there’s a period of time for which the machinery is being changed and this causes the productivity to stop completely which they could because the workers to sit idle.

Once the production for one batch starts its hard to go back to the previous batch, because product produced in form of groups so it’s difficult to start again the batch which is already produced.

Workers are often less motivated, because the work becomes repetitive due to the specialization of labor using in production process as a result became board to do same kind of task always.

Increased storage and cost of holding, for large quantities of products produced waiting for sales that’s needs the large place of warehouse with the safe place for stored goods also lead to the increase  of  cost such as cost of salaries of labor ,insurance cost and rent for owner the warehouse.

THE CIRCUMSTANCES WHICH RECOMMEND ORGANISATION GO TO FOR BATCH PRODUCTION.

 It recommends using this method of production because it is  common to small businesses that produce in controlled quantities. Also you can find batch production being utilized by companies that makes consistence, measured products.

 Not also but also it recommends to use batch production when a company is searching for solutions on how to manufacture uniform products that are made on demand therefore batch production is great solution that’s due to manufacturing process can help to keep your capital cost low and ensures quality is sustained through the production process.
