society. Difference from now days indigenous education were sending girls and
boys in the time near to mature and after back from Jando and Unyago these
young were able to get married. The condition to get married was working hard

After
coming of Arabs many people along the coast were converted to Muslim. The Arabs
were coming and make their settlement in Mikindani. People from other place

coming German. According to Mzee John Kambona German were coming to Mikindani
and after observe that they were not welcomed. They were deciding to go Masasi
the place where they established their churches and schools. People of Mtwara didn’t accept colonial education
because most of them were Muslim and German educations were aimed to convert
people to Christian.

According
to Bibi Somange Mtongwale of Newala and Mzee Hassani Mnawate the following are
reasons makes delaying of education in Mtwara.
Christian religion;
people were afraid to go to school to fear converting them to Christian and
eating pig. Most of people from Mtwara was Muslim so they didn’t want to loss
their religion .
Many
schools were far from their home. This school was building with high interval
from one school to another. So makes it very difficult to reach the school.
Parents
were afraid for their daughters to get pregnant and later to miss marriage
Uniform their used was too short
with hijabuless; Muslim girls were already gain Islamic
culture where by a women must cover her head. These girls were wearing hijabu
so it was very difficult for them to live their heads empty without cover with
the hijabu.
Few middle schools;
during German there was only three middle schools for girls and these are
Mangamba (now Mtwara Girls) for catholic girl, Mkunwa for Anglican girls and Chuno
for Muslim girls. Source Mzee Kambona. Later they opened Newala – Nangwanda, Masasi
girls – angalikana, Nanyamba as middle schools for girls.
There
was only two secondary schools in Mtwara and these are Ndanda for catholic boys
and Chidy for Anglican boys. Muslim boys went to Songea boys.
Difference

together with 3R skills, for adult who haven’t that skills.

Generally,
Mtwara have many facilities and resources such as gas, ocean, forest and high
production of cashew nuts but till now the development of people of Mtwara is
still going slow, these resources is benefiting few people for example Mtwara
is a champion of cashew nuts production but if you go to the real farmer many
of them are living normal life while other people like middle mans, Makangomba
and secretaries who dealing with this crop are living in good life. That’s why
education in Mtwara is still dilemma.
