INTRODUCTION:
The
customer right
to be safe
informed choose and give input to the producers of the
goods and services they use. This leads to proper procedures that make
transaction smooth and beneficial to both
the seller and the buyer.
Or
The
customer rights are
those things a buyer can reasonably
expect from a seller.
Some examples of
consumer right are the right to be safe, the right to be informed, the right to
choose, the right to be heard and the right to be satisfied with the basic
needs.
Consumer
responsibility is taking personal responsibility for
the environmental cost and consequences of your consumption pattern and life style.
The consumer responsibilities like read and follow instructions, proper use of
product or service, inform yourself and speak up if you feel that you have been
wronged by a business or an organization you have the responsibility to defend
yourself.
Consumer
protection is a group of laws and organization designed to
ensure the rights of consumers as well as fair trade, competition and accurate
information in the market place.
The following are the
importance of consumer protection movement;

Legal
help; various consumer protection association helps the
consumer to get their complaints against malpractice of traders redressed
through consumer disputes or civil courts.
·
Pressure
on government; since consumers are now united they are able to exert pressure on
the government to enact various laws and introduce measures for consumer
protection.
·
Create
consumer awareness; consumer movement creates awareness
among consumer and educates them through seminar, workshop, media, public and
meetings regarding customer right and customer responsibility.
·
Protection
against pollution; due to consumer movement business
organization are under pressure to take the necessary measure to control air, water
and noise pollution.
·
Protection
from unsafe products; an important object of consumer
movement is the united fight of consumer against harmful and unsafe product
produced by manufactures and sold by traders. For example product are medicines
causing side effects, sold without any written warning, sale of state products.
·
Protection
against unfair trade practice; businessman do various
unfair trade practice like over changing the customer ,using in accurate weight
and measures, selling inferior quality goods ,resorting to black marketing.
·
Consumer
protection agencies;
is an institution or agency responsible for the administration and provision of
protective measures with regard to consumer rights.
The
following are the consumer protection agencies;

Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB),
This regulatory agencies purpose is to protect consumer from deceptive
financial products. It ensures consumer have the information needed to select
the best financial services such as credit card, student loans, and mortgages.

Consumer
Product Safety Commission (CPSC); This is responsible
for consumer product safety. It gives the CPSC powers to protect an individual
from unsafe consumer products.
·
Tanzania
Bureau Standard (TBS); This was established under the
ministry of industrial and trade by an act of parliament. It protects business
by making arrangement facilities for the examination and testing of commodities
and any materials.
Conclusion,
Therefore;
in business setting consumers have right to choose and access to a variety of
products and services at fair and competitive prices. Also have responsibility
to complain and inform business and other consumers of dissatisfaction with a
product or services in a fair and manner.
