Colonial conquest/ method of colonialist

 Colonial invaders came to Africa to conquer and stay as ruler. They decided these after the Berlin conference of 1884-1885. In order to fulfill this aims they introduced different techniques such as

(a)Diplomacy

Involve negotiations and signing treaties with local rulers with the intention of subjecting them under colonial domination.

(b)Alliance

Making alliance with some African rulers against their powerful rival neighbors with the intention of bringing latter under subjection but in the end both of them lost and became under colonial domination.

(c)Military conquest

It was applied where active resistances were experienced or invaders felt the threat of being resisted by arms.

       But I will deal with collaboration or alliance as one of the method or technique used by colonialists to impose the colonial rule in Africa and East Africa in general.

Alliance is a bond or connection between families, states, parties, or individuals. Alliance was the second technique making that used by Europeans to conquer Africa after failure of diplomacy in some area. The local rulers collaborated with Europeans in order to act against their powerful rival neighbors. Wonderful enough both of them found under the foreigner domination ( collaborator and other who did not collaborated with whites). Examples Bena allied with German against hehe, chief mandara of moshi allied with German against mangisina and merer of usangu.

Reasons why Africans collaborated with colonialists

       Poor weapons, Europeans were well advanced technology in military than of the Africans. Africans were used spears and technological outdated gun could not compete with the maxim gun so they decided to unite with them. With the intention of being secure when the war will occur.

Natural calamities example hunger, drought forced them to unite and support foreigner invaders. They are weak and can't defeat the new comers so they suggest that collaboration was the best way for them. Because when Europeans come to Africa they were attained highest level of industrial development compare to African so due to natural calamities faced them can't survive for a long time in fighting against Europeans.

They wanted to maintain the independence of their respectively states,so they decided to unite with whites in order to remain in the power because they observe the states which oppose European domination enter in the war and some loose their territories and became under new control. So they thought that after collaborate will remain in the power.

Ignorance among Africans, it was created in minf that Europeans can't be defeated and they were blessed so instead of be against them you should join them. All these caused by missionaries when came to Africa to pave the way for colonialism in Africa. They soften African hurt and make them to feel they are inferior and whites are superior.

Poor leadership system, societies with their leaders united or collaborated with Europeans had weak and fear leaders compare to the societies which oppose European domination to their territories.

Disunity among Africans, few societies were well organized and united like in southern Tanganyika who fight against German but other societies decided to unite with the German in order to conquer their fellow Africans with the intention of controlling the place they conquer, also disunity caused by poverty there were some societies which was well developed so this crated classes among Africans.

Due to this technique which applied by Europeans it create a gap among Africans and make them to be defeated in any kind of resistance which they make in order to fight against Europeans.
